AQUARIUM CARE: This species is widespread in Africa, inhabiting lakes and other bodies of water across from Gambia on the far west coast, through central Africa, and to the Nile basin on the east.

In the aquarium the Senegal bichir is quite terratorial to its own kind, but will fit in well in a larger tank with large but peaceful inhabitants. It is carnivorous in the wild, eating insects, small fish and crustaceans, so relishes meaty foods such as beafheart and earthworms.

Fishkeeping Facts and Tips

Great first fish! Livebearers are unlike other fish in that they do not lay eggs; the young develop inside the mother and when born are significantly larger than the offspring of similarly sized egglayers. Species such as the guppy, platy and swordtail are incredibly prolific and are some of the best known, and most colouful aquarium species
