AQUARIUM CARE: This species is widespread in Africa, inhabiting lakes and other bodies of water across from Gambia on the far west coast, through central Africa, and to the Nile basin on the east.

In the aquarium the Senegal bichir is quite terratorial to its own kind, but will fit in well in a larger tank with large but peaceful inhabitants. It is carnivorous in the wild, eating insects, small fish and crustaceans, so relishes meaty foods such as beafheart and earthworms.

Fishkeeping Facts and Tips

Many aquarium species are territorial; these should only be kept with other fish in a larger tank with space for each. In a well-stocked dealers tank there is no chance to set up a territory, but problems will arise once introduced into your home community aquarium
