DISTRIBUTION: This species comes from Brazil, Guyana, Peru, Surinam

AQUARIUM CARE: This larger characin needs a larger tank in which it inhabits the middle and bottom strata. Hiding places are essential, and care must be taken to ensure that individuals are feeding happily.

BREEDING: Breeding is difficult, and in most cases will not occur in the aquarium.

The biggest killer of tropical fish is overfeeding. Uneaten food decays and pollutes the water, even with adequate filtration. Adult fish should remain unfed one day each week, and almost all commonly available species will be completely fine if unfed during a two week vacation
